In the late 1970s I became a plein air painter. I painted the badlands, prairies, and mountains around Calgary as well as landscapes on trips further afield to the United States. A move to Houston in the late 1990s allowed me to concentrate on the figure and start painting with acrylics. I have been fascinated with this medium ever since, although I still paint occasionally in oils and watercolour. In 2004, I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick.
I have travelled to Europe, Argentina, and throughout North America and Western Asia. Like my life with its many experiences, my paintings are colourful and touch on a variety of subjects from the known to the exotic, from figurative to nature.
I teach adults in my studio and conduct workshops, imparting my knowledge and excitement for creating drawings and paintings. My students include people who have never drawn to those who have painted for years.
"I have been taking classes for 4 years and have enjoyed every class. Pat encourages us to try different techniques and mediums. I feel that I’ve learned a lot. The classes are close to one on one as the class size is small."
"I came to Pat because I felt stuck in my watercolours and needed to be challenged. After two classes, I was into the acrylics and I have never looked back. Pat's knowledge of colour and forms is outstanding. She is an inspiring teacher who makes you think and experiment. You will be surprised at what you can do under Pat's supervision. The classes are fun! Come out and be inspired. Oh...the colours, the shapes, etc. You will be so excited!"
"Pat's depth of knowledge in colour is outstanding. She is very forthcoming with information in all mediums. I enjoy being able to paint in my own style and being encouraged to do so; at the same time, being exposed to new techniques and ideas. In Pat's class, I am learning that when working in acrylics there are no boundaries! And with humour added, I am enjoying the journey immensely."
"...I would never have thought I could have so much fun just mixing colours! Pat is a quiet, attentive teacher, willing to share her extensive knowledge and full of bits and pieces of valuable information! I learn so much every class!!!"
"Pat provides a great learning environment that meets the diverse learning needs and abilities of each learner (aspiring artist) in her classes. Plus she is able to adjust her teaching plans to accommodate people with physical as well as cognitive limitations. I am having a fantastic time and looking forward to learning something new at each class."
"Everyone should take a class with Pat... you will gain a whole new perspective on the artistic process. Whether you have experience or not...you will learn so much and there is no limit to the amount you can learn. You will leave each class knowing you have been given the opportunity and the tools to see things differently and stretch your wings!!!"
